You will need to change your car's motor oil every 3,000 miles is a fact that car owners know by heart. This is part of the preventive maintenance that owners have to do. Changing the motor oil regularly will also be a step towards keeping your car well-maintained. This article will give you some tips on how to change your motor oil.

First, make sure you have all the necessary tools and materials. Once you have made up your mind that you will be doing your oil change everytime then buy some jack stands, a socket set and an oil drain pan. These are basic tools needed for a change oil. Run your engine for ten minutes so that the oil gets hot which is better for draining. Open up the hood and place the funnel and the new motor oil on top of your engine so that you do not forget to put it in afterwards.

Afterwards, you can already start draining your oil. This is better done when your car is elevated. If you do not have a jack stand then find an elevated area where you can park your car. Locate the oil drain plug underneath the engine. Consult your manual if you do not know where it is located. Utilize a socket wrench for this. It is important that you have the oil pan underneath before releasing the plug.

Afterwards, change your oil filter and then change your engine oil. First remove your oil filler cap then once you have the funnel in place you can already pour in your new engine oil. It is important that you check with the dipstick if you want to see if you poured in enough engine oil then go ahead and replace your cap firmly in place.
