Car Insurance Quebec Is Not An Alternative

By Adriana Noton

You were involved in a car accident and are not quite sure what the next step is. You have a cell phone and have called the police to the site. You are hopeful that your car insurance Quebec will provide the necessary coverage that you need. It is important for you to collect all the information you can.

This accident did not cause any injuries. In this case it is a good idea to move the cars if it is possible. If you cannot move the cars then the cones, triangles, flares, or hazard lights are to be placed in the vicinity to allow traffic to avoid any mishaps. This is the time that the details are noted.

The important items to put down on paper are the way the accident happened. You need to know the time it happened, the date and the location. Noting the speed of the vehicles and the road conditions that would help too.

Those involved in the accident share their car registration with name, address and other important information. If there were passengers or witnesses these names should be collected. A sketch would be helpful if there is someone who can do one. A camera to document the details would also be very helpful.

Quebec insurance states that when you have an accident, you have the responsibility of protecting you own vehicle from further damage. Hopefully, you have purchased the collision or the all perils coverage, which will repay for the damage. In Quebec the government is owner and operator of part of the insurance plan.

The private insurers provide this portion however they must follow government regulations and are also supervised by them. A 2 tier system is what you find in Quebec. The government provides for coverage for anyone who was injured and the private sector provides the property damage portion.

You may discover that someone was injured in an accident. This insurance is no fault so no one is at fault and the injured person is not permitted to sue for pain and suffering. The person cannot even sue for additional medical costs or any economic issues. For this reason, people tend to buy as much insurance as they can afford

Living in Quebec you find that you have to buy third party liability insurance. There is a required minimum and the insurers compete by offering different coverage options with different prices and services. This insurance is the one that will cover you for property damage within the province. If you are outside the province then you are covered for personal injury and property damage.

There are carriers that carry dangerous materials on our roads. Their liability insurance cost quite a bit more than regular vehicles. It is the private agents that will provide this coverage to the carrier. You thought that the off-road vehicle you bought was covered by your present house insurance. Unfortunately that is not so. As a matter of fact the coverage for off-road vehicles is very high.

Insurance is something that we all feel is too costly. However, when something does happen we are grateful that we did get insurance. In Quebec there are no options since the government controls one potion of it.
