Class A RV Sales On The Rise

By Scott Jackson

Class A RVs are taking hold of the market. While numbers for RV sales dropped significantly during the recession, January turned a corner. More and more consumers are heading to an RV dealer to buy a new or used Class A RV, or travel trailer. The RV industry is watched as an indicator to the overall economic health of the country. So far this year, it's showing only positive growth.

RV shows across the country have seen in increase in attendance and sales. January seemed to kick off the turn of the recession. While RV shows have reported an increased interest in lightweight travel trailers and pop-up campers, they have also seen Class A sales rise, however, no one quite expected the numbers that have been recorded.

Class A RVs are thought to increase 90% in 2010 says Richard Curtain of RVIA. 2011 will continue the growing trend however at a much more gradual level. June saw an incredible 27,000 Class A RV units sell. This makes June the best selling month in the past two years.

The Monaco line of Class A RVs has been really popular this year. Consumers are looking for quality and luxury and Monaco delivers both of those. Other popular manufacturers include Newmar and Forest River. Their brands offer all you could want in a home away from home. Some amenities include leather couches, leather driver and passenger seats, 26" LCD TVs, cherry wood cabinetry, tile floors and more. At this level, there's nothing you could want that you can't have.

The trend is balanced by the popularity of lightweight travel trailers that have also jumped sales this year. Environmentally minded vacationers are going with the less-is-more philosophy. People are taking vacations closer to home and spending less money when the do travel. For the eco-traveler, saving gas and using the least resources possible is a high priority.

If it seems like it's all or nothing with RV sales, that's partially true. When people are concerned with money, they invest in safe items, such as real estate or bonds. Since RVs depreciate in value like any car, they aren't the first choice for an investment in a recession. However, when people are more confident, they resume travel plans and for some, traveling by Class A RV is the only way to go.

The fact that the RV industry is doing well on both a high-end level and a more economic level is a positive sign that people are starting to relax with their spending and trust this country is turning around.

The sales trend that has continued to grow throughout 2010 is showing great signs of recovery. People are starting to relax and head out on the road again. Vacations are essential to our wellbeing and to our creative and loving processes.

Both high-end and economical vehicles are stealing the sales this year. Next year, sales may balance out with a more gradual rise including sales of Class B and Class C RVs and fifth wheels. There are tons of variety in cost and amenities for anyone who loves the outdoors and has an itch to travel in comfort and style.
